Student Onboarding

Together with the support faction and our policy committee, we have been working on improving the student onboarding experience at the University of Groningen, focusing on making the transition for new students smoother and more comprehensive. Our file outlines the current challenges students face, including difficulties in accessing essential information about academic, social, and practical matters. With forecasts indicating a decline in student numbers, it is crucial to enhance Groningenโ€™s appeal as a study destination while ensuring that incoming students feel welcomed and supported.

The document covers key areas such as adulthood-related matters, student life, and available facilities. Many students struggle with bureaucratic processes like health insurance, GP registration, and financial arrangements, which are currently scattered across different platforms and difficult to navigate. Additionally, while Groningen has a vibrant student life, the information about associations and extracurricular opportunities is often incomplete or outdated. We propose solutions such as a more structured and centralized approach to information, including interactive platforms, multilingual resources, and better use of digital tools to help students integrate effectively. Our work aims to ensure that students not only adapt quickly but also engage fully with university life, leading to higher satisfaction and long-term retention.
